Dark lip neutralization is a specialized cosmetic tattooing treatment designed to lighten and even out the color of dark or unevenly pigmented lips. At Empowered Ink in Scottsdale, AZ, we offer this transformative service to help clients achieve a more balanced and natural lip color.
Lip neutralization, also known as lip lightening or lip correction, is a semi-permanent makeup procedure that neutralizes dark tones in the lips using customized pigments. This treatment is particularly beneficial for individuals with hyperpigmented lips due to genetics, smoking, sun exposure, or hormonal changes.
The process involves the careful application of pigment to the lips to counteract and neutralize dark tones. The chosen pigments blend with the natural lip color to create a more balanced, lighter appearance. This treatment enhances the natural beauty of your lips, providing a subtle, uniform color.
Consultation:
A thorough consultation to assess your lip color, discuss your desired outcome, and plan the treatment.
Pre-Care Preparation:
Hydrate your lips by drinking plenty of water and using a good lip balm.
Avoid blood-thinning medications and alcohol for 24-48 hours before the procedure.
Pigment Application:
A numbing cream is applied to ensure comfort.
Using a fine tattooing needle, the artist applies the custom pigment to neutralize the dark tones.
Immediate Post-Treatment:
Lips may appear darker initially, but this will lighten as the healing process progresses.
Typically, 2-3 sessions are required to achieve the desired results. Each session is spaced about 6-8 weeks apart to allow proper healing and color adjustment.

How Long Does the Treatment Take?

When Will I See Results?
Initial results are visible immediately, but the final color will emerge after the healing process, typically within 4-6 weeks.
How Long Do the Results Last?
The results of lip neutralization can last 2-3 years, with occasional touch-ups recommended to maintain the desired color.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Temporary swelling, redness, and slight tenderness are normal and should subside within a few days.
With proper aftercare, the results of lip neutralization can last up to 2-3 years. Touch-ups may be needed to maintain the desired color and address any natural fading.
